Paguera (or Peguera as it is spelt in the local Catalan language) is a relatively small tourist complex situated in the south west of the Island of Majorca (Catalan: Mallorca) in the municipal district of Calvia. Starting off as a small fishing village and farming area, specifically almonds trees, Peguera developed slowly until the last 40 years which has seen in turn into a bustling holiday Mecca for Europeans, primarily Germans tourists. Many Peguria Hotels have sprung up to cope with the increased demand of vacationers to the area. Mallorca is the largest of the Spanish islands in the Mediterranean Sea and is part of the Balearic Island Archipelago.
Located only 22 km from the capital city of Palm and a half hour drive from the airport, Peguera is easily accessible by taxi or bus. It also provides easy access to the whole island and all the wonders it has to offer. Peguera is set on three stunning beaches; Playa Palmira, Playa Tora and Playa La Romana, which are all joined together by a pedestrian promenade. Behind this is a shopping street running the length of the resort that provides fantastic shopping, service shops such as chemists and medical facilities, many restaurants, bars and a vibrant nightlife that includes discotheques and clubs. As this resort becomes more popular amongst British visitors, more and more British owned bars and restaurants are being developed.
Peguera experiences a very favorable climate thanks to the protection from the northerly winds offered by the Serra de Tramutana and the sea to the west. This results in Perguera experiencing more sunny days and a generally warmer climate than the rest of Mallorca. The main holiday season is still the summer months but many hotels in this area remain open in the winter, when guests can enjoy a quieter holiday but still participate in water sports and walking tours.
The area of Peguera is filled with mainly 3 and 4-star hotels, some of which have been family owned for generations. With so many luxury, middle-class and economy hotels and cheap airfares, holidays in Mallorca have become increasingly popular. Many of the hotels are set away from the beach and are surrounded by beautiful lush gardens with 100 year-old pine forests and palm trees. Others are only meters from the white sandy beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Long term apartments and hostels and bed and breakfast accommodation is also a popular choice in Peguera.
The architecture of Peguera Hotels is generally modern but some of the older establishments have achieved a fine blend of colonial-style buildings with traditional Mallorcan design. Many guest rooms have balconies that provide incomparable views over the sea and the Mallorcan coast and are the perfect private spot to soak up the sun or relax with a cool drink. Rooms are generally decorated in Mediterranean-style with pale colors and include built-in wardrobes, parquet floors and large king-size comfortable beds dressed in fine white linen. Luxury Peguera guest rooms are well equipped with air-conditioning, heating, mini-bar, telephone, TV with satellite and cable channels, fridge and a safe. Some private bathrooms include a bath and a shower, bath amenities, bathrobes and hairdryer.
While facilities and amenities differ considerable depending on the type of hotel, most 3 and 4-star Peguera Hotels offer 24-hour front desk, room service, parking, luggage storage laundry and pressing services and complimentary newspapers. Guests will also find hotels with business services that include fax and photocopying, comfortable reading rooms with internet connections, lounges and many bars perfect for meeting up with friends and exchanging stories of the day's affairs.
A few Peguera Hotels have several multi-purpose flexible rooms and halls, providing an ideal venue for business meetings, conventions or private family functions. Equipped with modern audio-visual equipment including internet access, loudspeakers, projector and microphone, stunning views and natural light, all events and functions are guaranteed to impress guests. Outdoor terraces and indoor lounges provide the ideal spot for break-out sessions or to relax during coffee breaks.
Very important to all guests, be they business or leisure is the cuisine. Many Peguera Hotels offer exquisite dining using variety, imagination and the freshest available food inspired by the warm Mediterranean. Complimentary self-service buffet breakfasts include all the ingredients for a sumptuous continental or British breakfast; sweet pastries, breads, rolls, cheeses, eggs, cold meats, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Lunches are often served outdoors on the terraces or patios while dinners are also often self-service buffets with regional fare or served in sophisticated restaurants.
Of course the main attractions of guests to all Perguera Hotels are the stunning beaches and water sports that they offer. Peguera Hotels are actively involved in hiring our boats, providing yacht charters, scuba diving excursions or trips in glass bottomed boats. Some guests prefer to soak up the sun and enjoy the sun beds and parasols and take refreshing dips in the cool sea. Peguera Hotels themselves provide wonderful in-house leisure amenities including indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis court, fitness room, sauna, Jacuzzi and a solarium. Games rooms with billiard and pool tables are popular. Convenient access to many fine 18-hole golf courses is also offered as is horse riding and walking tours. Luxury Peguera Hotels often include a spa with relaxing massages and de-stressing treatments.
Peguera Hotels offer something for everyone. With its splendid climate, magnificent beaches, water sports and wonderful walking tours throughout the island, guests are assured of a vacation to remember.
